How we handle your data

Privacy

What voicesflow.org collects, what it doesn't, and how to ask questions or request deletion. Short on purpose.

VoicesFlow.org (“VoicesFlow,” “Site,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by Five59 Labs LLC, based in Columbus, Ohio, USA. This combined Privacy Policy and Terms of Use explains how the Site works, what information may be processed when you use it, and the rules that apply to your access to and use of the Site.

By accessing or using VoicesFlow.org, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

01.

About the Site

VoicesFlow is a storytelling platform for communities of change. The Site may feature films, exhibits, immersive media, editorial content, project information, and related digital experiences created with and alongside people closest to justice crises and structural inequity.

02.

Privacy Overview

VoicesFlow is designed to collect as little information as possible through the Site itself. At this time, visitors can browse most of the Site without creating an account or directly submitting personal information to us.

The main exception is an optional newsletter or mailing list signup feature that may be embedded on the Site or linked through a third-party provider, such as Substack or another email platform we may use in the future. If you choose to subscribe, the information you provide, such as your email address, will generally be collected and processed by that third-party provider under its own privacy policy and terms.

The Site also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate traffic and performance reporting. Cloudflare states that this analytics product is privacy-first and does not use cookies, localStorage, or fingerprinting for analytics.

03.

Information We Collect

Information not directly collected by us through ordinary browsing

We do not currently require visitors to register for an account, log in, or provide personal information to browse the Site. We do not currently offer on-site purchases, user uploads, open comment features, or user-submitted story or application forms through the Site.

Information processed through third-party providers

If you choose to sign up for our newsletter or updates, you may submit your email address and any other information requested through a third-party provider's form, landing page, or embedded tool. That provider may collect and process your information according to its own terms, privacy policy, and operational practices.

Analytics and technical data

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns and site performance. According to Cloudflare, its Web Analytics product does not use client-side state such as cookies or localStorage and does not fingerprint users for analytics reporting.

Like most websites, the Site and its infrastructure providers may still process limited technical data necessary to deliver webpages, maintain security, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical issues, such as IP address, browser type, device information, referrer information, and request metadata. Provider documentation indicates that technical processing may occur even when analytics tools are designed to be privacy-first.

04.

How Information is Used

Any limited information available to us or our service providers may be used to:

  • Operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site.
  • Measure aggregate traffic and site performance.
  • Deliver newsletters or updates that a visitor voluntarily requests through a third-party provider.
  • Protect against fraud, abuse, malicious activity, or legal violations.
  • Comply with applicable law and enforce this Policy.

05.

Cookies & Similar Tech

VoicesFlow does not currently use advertising cookies or behavioral profiling tools on the Site as described in this Policy.

Cloudflare states that Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies or localStorage and does not fingerprint users for analytics.

However, third-party services linked to or embedded on the Site, including newsletter signup tools, media players, and social media content or widgets, may use cookies, scripts, pixels, local storage, or similar technologies under their own policies. Social media and embedded content providers commonly disclose that their tools may collect IP address and page interaction data or set cookies when loaded or used.

06.

Third Party Services

The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including social media pages or profiles, and may also embed or integrate third-party tools or content, such as newsletter signup forms, videos, feeds, maps, or social media posts.

If you click a third-party link, visit a linked social media page, or interact with embedded third-party content, that third party may collect information about you directly, including usage data, device/browser information, IP address, and cookie-related data, subject to its own privacy policy and terms. Meta, for example, publishes its own privacy policy for Facebook and related services, and providers of embedded social features commonly state that interaction with those features is governed by the provider's own terms.

VoicesFlow is not responsible for the privacy, security, availability, content, accuracy, or practices of third-party websites, social networks, embedded services, or external platforms. Users should review the privacy policies and terms of any third-party service they choose to use.

07.

Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information collected through ordinary browsing of the Site.

We may share limited information with service providers as needed to host, secure, analyze, and operate the Site and related services, including website infrastructure providers, analytics providers such as Cloudflare, and newsletter providers such as Substack or another successor platform.

We may also disclose information when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, property, or security of VoicesFlow, Five59 Labs LLC, collaborators, community partners, users, or the public.

08.

Data Retention

Because the Site does not currently support user accounts or direct on-site submissions, we generally do not maintain personal information from ordinary browsing beyond what is processed operationally by service providers.

If you subscribe through a third-party email or newsletter platform, retention of your subscription information will generally be governed by that provider's systems and policies unless otherwise stated at the time of collection. Substack publishes its own privacy policy covering how it handles personal information collected through its service.

We may retain limited operational, legal, security, and administrative records as reasonably necessary.

09.

Children's Privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through the Site. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a third-party signup tool associated with the Site, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to address the issue as appropriate.

10.

U.S. Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights under applicable U.S. privacy laws relating to access, deletion, correction, or other processing of personal information, subject to legal limitations and exemptions.

Because VoicesFlow does not currently collect much personal information directly through ordinary browsing, these rights may be limited in practice unless you have separately provided information through a third-party subscription tool or direct communication with us.

11.

International Use

The Site is operated from the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that information may be processed in the United States or in other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.

12.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time by posting a revised version on the Site and updating the Effective Date. Continued use of the Site after an update becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy to the fullest extent permitted by law.

  • Use the Site in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
  • Interfere with the Site's operation, security, or integrity.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, servers, accounts, or related systems.

16.

Intellectual Property

The Site and its contents, including text, graphics, design, branding, logos, audio, video, software, and other materials, are owned by or licensed to Five59 Labs LLC and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Website terms commonly include express ownership and restricted-use language for site materials and marks.

Except for the limited license granted above, no right, title, or interest in the Site or its content is transferred to you.

17.

Third-Party Platforms & Social Media

VoicesFlow may maintain pages, accounts, or profiles on third-party platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo, LinkedIn, or similar services, and the Site may link to or embed content from those platforms.

Your interactions with those platforms are governed by the applicable third party's terms and privacy practices, not by VoicesFlow alone. Providers of social media and embedded tools commonly state that they may collect information such as IP address, browser data, and interaction data when users visit or interact with their services or embedded features.

18.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site and all content and features are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Standard website terms commonly include broad warranty disclaimers and as-is language.

We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, complete, accurate, or free of harmful components, or that it will meet your expectations or needs.

19.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Five59 Labs LLC and its officers, employees, contractors, affiliates, licensors, collaborators, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or business opportunities arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Site.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the total liability of Five59 Labs LLC for any claim arising out of or relating to the Site or this Policy will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars ($100). Limitation-of-liability clauses are a standard feature of U.S. website terms and are commonly paired with warranty disclaimers.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

20.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Five59 Labs LLC and its officers, employees, contractors, affiliates, collaborators, licensors, and agents from and against claims, liabilities, damages, losses, judgments, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or related to your use of the Site, your violation of this Policy, or your violation of any rights of another person or entity. Indemnification language is a common element in website terms, especially to address misuse or third-party claims.

21.

Governing Law and Venue

This Policy and any dispute arising out of or relating to the Site will be governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Franklin County, which includes Columbus, is one of Ohio's core counties.

Any legal action or proceeding arising out of or relating to this Policy or the Site must be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Franklin County, Ohio, and you consent to the jurisdiction and venue of those courts. Governing-law and venue provisions are standard elements of website terms.

22.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Site at any time, with or without notice, if we believe a user has violated this Policy, applicable law, or the security or integrity of the Site.

23.

Entire Agreement

This Policy constitutes the entire agreement between you and Five59 Labs LLC regarding your use of the Site, unless a separate written agreement applies to a specific project, engagement, exhibit, production, or service.
